Factors Affecting Self Efficacy to Medication Adherence Among Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients in Padang Lawas Regency
Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health challenge, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia. Medication adherence is crucial for successful TB treatment, yet many patients struggle to follow their prescribed regimens. Understanding factors influencing adherence, such as self-efficacy, is essential to improving treatment outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the influence of self-efficacy on medication adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Padang Lawas Regency. A cluster sampling technique was used, involving a total of 102 respondents. Data analysis included univariate analysis to present the frequency distribution of each variable and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. The results showed a significant relationship between self-efficacy and medication adherence (p-value= 0.000). However, other variables such as drug side effects (p-value= 0.223) and the role of treatment supervisors (p-value= 0.114) were not significantly associated with medication adherence. Healthcare providers should focus on enhancing patients' self-efficacy through targeted counseling and education programs to improve medication adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
