Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is one of the major public health problems in Indonesia, including in Medan City, and its prevalence continues to rise. This disease not only affects the quality of life of those who suffer from it but also imposes a significant burden on the healthcare system. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition that requires long-term management, where the health behaviors of patients play a crucial role in preventing complications. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with the health behaviors of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients in Medan City. The research employed an analytic correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all individuals diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in seven selected healthcare center service areas in Medan City, totaling 6,493 people. The sample was obtained using accidental sampling, resulting in a total sample size of 109 participants. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered through interviews. The data were then analyzed using univariate analysis with frequency distribution and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. The study findings revealed no significant relationship between age and gender with the health behaviors of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients in Medan City. However, there was a significant relationship between education level and family support with the health behaviors of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients in Medan City.
